Definition: wagering requirement
A wagering requirement (also called “playthrough”) is the total amount you must wager before bonus funds (and often any bonus winnings) become withdrawable. It’s usually shown as a multiplier like 30x, 35x, or 40x.
How to calculate wagering (simple example)
Example: You claim a $200 bonus with 35x wagering on the bonus amount.
Required wagering: $200 × 35 = $7,000 total bets
If the term is “35x deposit + bonus” and you deposited $200 too, then it’s ($200 + $200) × 35 = $14,000.
Why do some bets “count less”?
Most casinos weight games differently because some games have a lower house edge. That’s why you’ll see contribution rules such as:
- Slots: 100% contribution
- Blackjack: 10%–20% contribution (or excluded)
- Roulette: often restricted or low contribution
If a game contributes 10%, then $10 bet only counts as $1 toward wagering. This is a common reason players think they “should be done” but aren’t.
How to clear wagering faster (without taking silly risks)
1) Choose eligible games with 100% contribution
Slots are usually the fastest way to clear wagering because they commonly count fully. Start by checking the terms for eligible providers and excluded games.
2) Keep your bet size within the max bet rule
Many bonuses have a maximum allowed bet per spin/hand (for example $5). Betting over the limit can void winnings, so keep stakes consistent and within the rule.
3) Manage bankroll so you can reach the finish line
Clearing playthrough often requires thousands of dollars in total bets. Use smaller stakes to survive variance and avoid busting before you complete the requirement.
Common mistakes
- Not checking whether wagering is on the bonus only or deposit + bonus
- Playing excluded games (or low contribution games) while trying to clear playthrough
- Breaking max bet rules during bonus play
- Assuming a bonus is always worth it for your bankroll
